Common Issues and Concerns
A player window opens, but the audio doesn't start
You may need to change your firewall settings to permit streaming media (please consult your network administrator or service provider) or adjust your player's transport settings to listen to CJ 106.5 fm audio. Every site encodes and serves their audio a little differently, so even if your player works on some other sites, you may experience errors on cj-106.assiniboine.net, and vice versa.
Tips for Improving Windows Media Player Performance
- In Windows Media Player select the Tools Menu and select "Options".
- Click on the "Network" tab. Uncheck the first three protocols so only "HTTP is checked".
- Click on the "Performance" tab located towards the top of the Options screen.
- Under Network Buffer, click on the "Buffer" radio button and change the value to 20 seconds. Click OK.
- Close Windows Media player and reconnect to the stream.
Podcasting
The basic requirements for podcasting are a computer, podcasting software and a high-speed Internet connection. To take your podcast with you, an iPod or any MP3 player is also needed.
To begin, download and install podcasting software onto your computer, (PC or Mac). Though every application is different, there are generally directions to "add" a podcast feed (usually just as simple as copying and pasting the podcast URL into your podcasting application). There are various software programs that can be used to download and access podcasts. KEXP suggests iTunes 4.9 with it's podcast subscription service. iTunes is free. Others are free to download, but limit the number of podcasts you can subscribe to. Still other podcasting programs are available for a small fee.
You can download podcasting software from:
When I click on the link, I get a page full of code.
Podcasts use a type of code called XML. Some XML can be displayed in a web browser, but not podcasting. You must use the URL with your desired podcasting software.
How do I see all the past episodes of your podcasts?
Once you susbcribe to a podcast the most recent episode will be downloaded to your computer . However, since podcasting is a subscription service, all of the past episodes will be available for download. You will need to manually download these.
I am using iTunes and all I see is the most recent episode, how do I see the old ones?
There is an arrow next to the podcast, which is pointing to the right. If you click on that arrow, the arrow will rotate so it is pointing down, and all the past episodes will be displayed.
